The ancient ruins of Türkiye with a history of more than 1000 years entered the metauniverse

The ancient city of Zeugma in southeastern Gaziantep province discovered the home of Dionysus during excavation, which has been introduced into a virtual platform through the metaverse.
Science popularization: Gaziantep, also known as Antep, is a city in Türkiye and one of the oldest cities in the world still inhabited, dating back to 3650 years ago.


The Gaziantep city government has launched a project to share artifacts from the Zeugma Mosaic Museum online, which attracts thousands of local and foreign visitors throughout the year. Zeugma's House of Dionysus was first designed in 3D format and added to the virtual environment.
History enthusiasts who cannot personally visit museums can visit the Dionysus House and its Mosaic Museum in Zeugma through virtual reality glasses.

Fatma Ş ahin, the Mayor of Gaziantep, spoke at the "First Step towards the Surrealing World" event held at the Planetarium and Science Center, stating that Gaziantep has a rich ancient history.  ahin pointed out that if people do not keep pace with the times, Türkiye will not prepare for young people tomorrow, she continued. Those who see the future world today and do the necessary things will build the future. The mayor also pointed out that in this sense, they are trying to utilize virtual technology in urban planning.
Ş ahin pointed out that important items and artifacts were unearthed in the ancient city of Zeugma, saying, 'You can see the glorious period of the Romans in Zeugma.'. Some people do not have enough time or opportunity to visit this ancient city. The metaverse brings what you want to know closer to you through digital platforms. Science, art, and culture will be integrated with technology. We are in a new era where we will combine cultural heritage with technology. Gaziantep has five ancient cities, inns, Türkiye bathrooms and museums, which will be included in the metauniverse.


Zeugma is an ancient Greek city in Türkiye, followed by Ommagene in Rome. The Mosaic unearthed at the site is preserved in the Zegema Mosaic Museum, which is one of the largest Mosaic museums in the world. The museum also has other unique ancient artifacts, such as fountains from Roman times, bronze sculptures of Mars, the god of war in Roman mythology, and the famous' Gypsy Girl '. The Zeugma Mosaic Museum, which opened in 2011, won the Türkiye President's Culture and Art Award in 2012.
